Bury one's head in the sand

To bury one’s head in the sand is to refuse to confront an unpleasant situation, hoping it will go away or improve so that he won’t have to deal with it later.  (‘Hide one’s head in the sand’ is also used.)

“The school master simply buries his head in the sand whenever the topic of student bullying comes up.”
